Cold fronts on way after ideal holiday weather

Clouds, rain and colder air is expected to come into the area after a sunny and clear Memorial Day afternoon, the National Weather Service in State College said.

“It was nice having a break for the holiday, for sure,” said meteorologist Paul Head, “but a series of fronts is coming.”

The fronts, bringing moisture and significant cloud cover, were expected to move in during the early morning hours today.

“You can expect those clouds that came in to lead to fog and low clouds in the morning toward the south of the city,” Head said.

The high for today is 75 degrees, but it probably will be a few degrees cooler than that, Head said.

The low clouds may try to burn off and lift but likely will lead to a developing rain storm later in the afternoon into tonight, with temperatures in the area of 60 degrees.

That wet pattern is expected to continue into Thursday.

“And you’re probably only going to get up to 70 or 75 degrees again Thursday,” Head said. “You would think that with a cold front having gone by, it would be colder, but what May sun (does is) overpowers cold air and that’s what you’ll probably see Friday, with temperatures reaching the 80s.”
