WASD OKs personnel changes

The Williamsport Area School Board unanimously voted to make some personnel changes and approve a bid for electronic communications Wednesday during a special meeting advertised in the Public Notices section of the Sun-Gazette.

Lori Baer, board president, said the extra meeting was necessary to finish up some loose ends before July 1.

“We’ve got to get moving on it before July 1,” she said. “It’s the beginning of the (fiscal) year for the school district.”

The board approved a change in position for Sheila A. Shull from assistant principal at Jackson Primary School to director of special education for the district at a salary of $103,000 effective July 1.

The board also approved a bid from SchoolMessenger for the provision of Safe Mail, a solution to monitor all electronic communications by students using Microsoft Office 365, at an annual cost of $6,300 or $1.80 per student with a one time set up fee of $500.

It replaced the Gaggle Safety Management suite, which was $5.60 per student per year.

The money will be funded out of the district’s technology budget.

Voting yes were members Baer, Jerene Milliken, Scott Williams, Jennifer Lake, Dr. Nancy Story Somers and Spencer Sweeting. Members Dr. Jane Penman, Dr. Robin Knauth and Patrick Dixon were absent.

The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. July 18 at the District Service Center.
