School board approves purchase of computers

The Williamsport Area School Board approved the purchase of computers and took care of various personnel items during its meeting Tuesday night.

The 21 iMacs from Apple, coming to a total cost of $24,528, will be funded through the 2017-18 Perkins Grant and be used in the high school Career and Technical Education program.

In other matters, the board approved Career Cruising, an online college and career planning tool for students and parents, at a cost of $7,952.

A quote of $12,350 from Orchard Pump & Supply Co., Inc., Lewisburg for the filtering system at Lycoming Valley Intermediate School was approved.

In personnel moves, the board approved the following resignations: Kerri E. Kotch, second-grade teacher, Jackson Primary School; Jordan L. Anderson, part-time instructional support aide/intervention aide, Stevens Primary School; Robert E. Keeler, part-time custodian, middle school; and Heather E. Umstead, part-time instructional support aide/autistic support, Lycoming Valley Intermediate School.

An extension of an unpaid leave of absence was approved for Harry R. Boring Jr., part-time high school custodian, from July 17 to Sept. 21.

The following personnel were approved as coordinating teachers for the 2017-18 school year: Andrea M. McDonough Varner, art; Kent C. Weaver, music; Jeremy S. Steppe, health/physical education; Michael A. Murafka, English; Patricia A. Miller, mathematics; Andrew L. Paulhamus, science; and Thomas W. Rinker, social studies.

The following personnel were approved to high school head coaching athletic positions at the following salaries: Charles D. Crews, football, $8,858; Lee W. Kaar, boys soccer, $5,600; J. Scott McNeill, girls soccer, $5,600; John F. Dorner, girls tennis, $4,000; David R. Heller, golf, $3,200; Stephanie L. Wahl, cheerleading, $4,800; Jeremy S. Steppe, boys & girls cross country, $4,800.

Approved for middle school head coaching positions were: Tariq C. Moore, football, Cherry, $2,240; Michael A. Alston Jr., football, White, $3,040; Lisa A. Walter, boys and girls cross country, $2,280; Todd A. Brooks, softball, Cherry, $2,400; Steve. L. Reed, softball, White, $2,400; and Laura K. Haldeman, cheerleading, $1,700.

The board met in executive session following the regular meeting to consider legal and personnel matters.
