Out-of-town routes to continue under different bus service

A new era in transportation services begins today with Fullington Trailways LLC assuming bus route service from Williamsport.

The state Department of Transportation recently gave approval for Fullington to take over the service from Susquehanna Trailways.

In August, Susquehanna announced it would end bus routes from Williamsport to Philadelphia, New York City, Harrisburg and Elmira.

“It’s something we saw a need for,” Jennifer Corman, director of travel and transportation services for Fullington, said. “We are happy to work with PennDOT to make it happen.”

Susquehanna, with offices in Williamsport and Avis, will continue to offer tour and charter services for individuals and groups.

Corman said customers can expect a smooth transition with service switching from Susquehanna to Fullington.

Service runs from Williamsport to the various cities will continue on a daily basis with the exception of Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

“We will take over operations of the bus terminal on Church Street,” Corman said.

To make online ticket reservations, customers can go to to Fullingtontours.com, under the tab Daily Departures.

The decision by Susquehanna to end route service came down to economics.

Although it received a grant this year, the company did not have enough money to support the daily bus trips, according to a corporate statement issued to the Sun-Gazette earlier this month.
