Pedestrian struck, killed on Route 220

IOANNIS PASHAKIS/ Sun-Gazette First responders investigate the scene of a crash Monday night on Route 220 when a pedestrian was struck and killed in the 5700 block of the southbound lane.

A city woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash Monday night after she was struck by a vehicle in the southbound lane of Route 220 — the fifth pedestrian to be struck and killed on the same stretch of road in little more than a year.

Patricia K. Warner, 59, of Williamsport, was struck by a vehicle driven by Samantha K. Turner, 28, of Howard. The crash occurred around 6:40 p.m. in the 5700 block in Woodward Township.

Warner was crossing the highway on foot, police said, when she was struck by Turner’s vehicle, which stopped in a ditch to the right of the road.

First responders called a medical helicopter to the scene but canceled it after Warner was pronounced dead by the Lycoming County Coroner’s office.

The crash is under investigation, police said.

On Oct. 25, Robert L. Brunner, of Lock Haven, was struck by two vehicles at 4:45 a.m. Dennis L. Burley, 54, of Muncy, was hit by oncoming traffic on March 1 as he walked across Route 220.

Two city men were killed on the same stretch of road on Sept. 12 of last year as they changed a flat tire on the berm of the northbound lanes.
