2 newcomers join city school board
After seven people sought election to the Williamsport Area School Board, unofficial results are in for the five available seats.
According to unofficial election results, the five seats go to incumbents Spencer Sweeting, of 1035 Rural Ave., with 4,284 votes; Dr. Nancy Story Somers, of 237 English Hill Road, Cogan Station, with 4,218 votes; and Dr. Jane Penman, of 108 Country Manor Lane, Linden,with 4,160 votes.
The two newcomers to the board are Marc Schefsky, of 200 W. Fourth St., with 3,112 votes and Adam C. Welteroth, of 815 Packer St., with 3,016 votes.
Incumbent Dr. Robin Knauth, of 1328 Woodmont Ave., received 2,184 votes and lost her seat on the board. Chuck Black, of 1162 W. Fourth St., received 2,023 votes.
There were 53 write-ins for the school board, and a total of 23,050 votes.
Until the official vote count begins on Friday, it is unknown who received the write-in votes.
East Lycoming School Board had one contested race for one seat in Region 2 between Republican Erica Hubler, of 53 N. Second St., Hughesville, and incumbent Democrat Randy Eddinger, of 86 N. Second St., Hughesville.
Hubler received 227 votes, easily pulling in a victory over Eddinger, who had 97, according to unofficial election results.
There were only two write-in votes and a total of 326 votes for the seat.
Elsewhere in East Lycoming, Region 1 has two seats open and two candidates, both incumbents, Karen L. Berger, of 355 Reservoir Road, Hughesville, and Michael Mamrak, of 719 McConnell Parkway, Hughesville.
Lisa K. McClintock, of 419 Barto Hollow Road, is the candidate for the one open seat in Region 3.
