Legislative Tally: Tax hike added to ’18 proposed county budget

Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past week:


• The House voted 242 to 174 to pass a bill Friday reauthorizing the lapsed Children’s Health Insurance Program. Voting yes were U.S. Reps. Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station, and Glenn “G.T.” Thompson, R-Howard.


• The Senate and House were out of session during the week.


• The Lycoming County commissioners announced the addition of a 0.75 millage tax increase to the proposed 2018 county budget, which still is a work in progress. Homeowners with property assessed at $100,000 would see a county tax bill increase of $75. The commissioners are holding a public hearing to discuss the budget from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Jersey Shore Public Library. Pending public comment, the final budget is expected to be voted on at the commissioners meeting on Dec. 7.


• Porter Township Supervisors voted 3-0 to approved the 2018 spending plan that includes no real estate tax increase. Voting yes were Ron Markle, Irv Rauch and John Ingraham.
