New jet service expected at airport by end of month

The Williamsport Regional Airport is expecting its new jet aircraft to arrive on Nov. 29.

Embraer 145 regional jets with capacity for 50 passengers will replace all of the airport’s 34-seat Dash 8s for flights to Philadelphia. The jet is expected to touch down at 12:23 p.m. and depart again around 1 p.m.

The Dash 8s will be removed from the airport’s inventory, said Dave Frey, marketing director for the airport.

“All of the air service for the airport after the 29th will be jet. It’s a very big step for us,” Frey said. “It’s a definite positive asset to people in our region.”

Airport and American Airlines officials will meet the new aircraft upon its arrival, Frey added.

Frey said the addition of jet service is a “culmination” of the many projects undertaken at the airport over the past few years, from runway renovations to the ongoing terminal construction project.

“It’s a significant improvement in our service,” he said. “There are more seats, it’s more modern, it’s faster and it flies at a higher altitude so we won’t have to deal with weather as much whereas we were victimized by that before.”
