Williamsport Municipal Water Authority workers dug through Hepburn Street, at the corner of West Edwin Street, late Thursday morning to find and repair a water main break. The crew used a vacuum excavater to remove debris. Charles Hauser, director of engineering for the authority, said he hoped the problem was a small as a crack and could be managed by putting a sleeve or a coupling on it. The water main at the site serves the downtown area and work was not expected to affect the water supply. The main also is close to a telephone line operated by Verizon, so care was taken to not disturb the utility, Hauser said. He anticipated the repair to be done the same day and the work site cleared by evening.
