School board approves personnel changes, field trips
The Williamsport Area School Board unanimously approved personnel changes and field trips during its meeting on Monday.
Seth H. Decker, Brenda D. Winter, Tyler J. Farabaugh, Carol W. Porter and Kevin J. Harris were approved as substitute teachers for the after-school tutors for high school students effective Sept. 11 through May 11, 2018 as needed at the rate of $31.20 per hour for up to three days per week for one instructional hour per day at the end of the high school teacher day.
Edward L. Hare was approved as seventh-grade boys basketball head coach at $2,240.
In other business, the board approved nine middle school students and a staff member to travel to the Brickyard during January 2018 as a school wide positive behavior reward.
In the same vote, the board approved 135 middle school band members to travel to the high school during February 2018 to rehearse for the all-district band concert.
The board also approved 60 members of the Lycoming Valley Intermediate School’s small performing ensembles to travel to Harrisburg during March 2018 to perform at the capitol.
In the same vote, the board approved 200 fifth-grade students from Curtin Intermediate School to travel to Pennsylvania College of Technology during February 2018 to attend the annual science fair.
Lori Baer, board president, also made note that Dr. Nancy Story Somers, who had been absent at the last meeting, was sworn in as a school board member on Dec. 20 by District Judge Christian D. Frey.
“Congratulations and welcome,” she said. “You were on a trip if I remember … so welcome back again.”
Dr. Timothy Bowers said there was a smooth transition back to school after having winter break.
“Happy New Year … and as you can see, we’re a fairly light agenda tonight. We’re back in business, up and running and had a pretty normal day (on Tuesday),” he said. “Everything went well, so it’s always good to get back on track and going well.”
Present at the meeting were members Baer, Spencer Sweeting, Dr. Jane Penman, Marc Schefsky, Adam Welteroth, Patrick Dixon, Story Somers, Jennifer Lake and Jerene Milliken.
The next meeting will be 6 p.m. Jan. 16 at the District Service Center, 2780 W. Fourth St.
