Committee plans city egg hunt
The next event the city recreation department and commission are planning is the annual Christy Haberstroh Easter Egg Hunt at Brandon Park.
The tradition is set for 2 p.m. on March 24, with a rain date of March 31, according to the schedule released Monday at the commission meeting at City Hall.
More specific details on the age groups will be provided for a forthcoming article, according to Jessie Novinger, city recreation director.
After that, the department begins to prepare for the two summer camps at Brandon and Memorial parks.
The dates this year for the summer camp programs are June 11 through Aug. 17.
The department plans to hire a program manager and two site managers.
The commission discussed a potential late fee imposed for those 15 minutes late for picking up their children. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. For every 15 minutes late, the commission discussed imposing a $10-per-child late fee. Camp counselors must be paid for their time, according to the discussion, and habitual violators won’t be tolerated this year without the fee being imposed. No vote was taken until the fee is finalized.
Novinger discussed a possible shade sail to be affixed near benches at the Splash Cove swimming pool at Memorial Park. She was instructed to explore pricing and see if any businesses want to provide advertising or assist with costs.
