Annual egg hunt, summer activities planned in city
The city recreation department and commission are gearing up for the annual Christy Haberstroh Easter Egg Hunt, set for 2 p.m. March 24 at Brandon Park, with a rain date of March 31.
The hunt will include face time with the Easter Bunny, bounce houses and face painting for kids up to age 10. Recreation Director Jessie Novinger said there is a new addition to the festivities this year — a small craft booth where kids can create their own bunny faces.
Participants are asked to bring their own baskets.
Meanwhile, although summer may feel like a distant dream, the recreation commission already is making plans for many traditional summer events.
The Summer Concert Series is set to begin June 3 with many bands already on board, including the Repasz Band, which is slated to play for the Fourth of July, Novinger said.
The second StrEAT Food Festival is scheduled for June 16 at Bowman Field with several food trucks already itching to participate, while the ever-growing HomeMade Days are slated for June 22 and 23, she said.
In another matter, city Mayor Gabriel J. Campana asked the recreation department members to develop a list of needs in the city’s parks by the next commission meeting. He said the list will help the city prioritize if there are leftover community development dollars in the budget.
“I would like to see more attention given to the parks,” he said.
The recreation commission’s next meeting will be held at 4 p.m. April 9 in the City Council chambers in City Hall.
