City man dies in late Sunday night crash on Route 15

A 41-year-old man was killed late Saturday night in a one-car crash on Route 15, just south of the lookout, in Armstrong Township, according to state police.

Brett E. George, of the city, was pronounced dead at the scene minutes after he lost control of his southbound 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse, Trooper Robert Williamson said.

The crash occurred about 10:50 p.m. and shut down the southbound lanes for about four hours.

George’s car struck “a rock embankment and then overturned, landing on its roof. The car then slid in a southeast direction across both southbound lanes while rotating in a counterclockwise direction, landing against a concrete divider,” Williamson said.

George was thrown from the car, landing about 20 feet south of the vehicle, he said.

Volunteer firefighters and fire police from DuBoistown and South Williamsport responded to the crash as did a state Department of Transportation crew.
