Council hires policeman

Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past week:

Federal

• The House voted in favor of the Satisfying Energy Needs and Saving the Environment Act. Voting yes were U.S. Reps. Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station, and Glenn Thompson, R-Howard.

Municipal

• Montoursville Borough Council voted 5-0 to hire Dalton Spencer as a part-time police officer. Voting yes were Robert Brown, Tina Kline, Mark Tillson, Eric Greenway and Christopher Lucas. Ted Haines was absent.

School District

• The Williamsport Area School Board unanimously approved Scott R. Williams as the district’s full-time supervising manager of Pupil Transportation, $50,000 salary with an additional annual stipend of $1,500 for responsibilities related to inclement weather and transportation decisions. Voting yes were members Patrick Dixon, Lori Baer, Jerene Milliken, Jennifer Lake, Dr. Jane Penman, Dr. Nancy Story Somers, Spencer Sweeting and Adam Welteroth. Member Marc Schefsky was absent.
