Maynard Street Sheetz looks to rebuild; Otto’s seeks new name

The City Planning Commission recommended approval of a land development plan Thursday for Sheetz to rebuild at 105 Maynard St.

The convenience store will be torn down and rebuilt similar to stores throughout the region, according to Sheetz officials.

Voting in favor of the rebuild were Chelsea Rawson, William Rischar, Tony Nardi, Charles Plankenhorn, and Cynde Eister. Harry Sechler was absent and Chris Keiser was acting chairman.

The plan is to begin demolition in May or June, provided the land development receives approval from City Council on March 29, according to Gary Knarr, city zoning officer.

The store will continue to be the same in makeup and have fuel islands.

The commission also approved recommendations for certificates of appropriateness for Black Horse Holdings, 215 E. Third St. The officials owning the business, which has furnished executive lofts, asked to have a 75-foot sign reading Black Horse Holdings facing the street. Council will need to approve the certificate.

Another request for a sign is at Otto’s. The new sign will read Otto, should council approve it.

Liberty Arena owner Daniel Klingerman will need to provide 5-foot sidewalk and 20-foot cartway for vehicles at its proposed buildout restaurant.

The commission gave the request a positive recommendation provided that be part of the plan. The purpose is to ensure vehicles accessing the business via Third Street don’t drive onto sidewalk and create safety issues for pedestrians, said Joseph Gerardi, city codes administrator. Council will need to OK the recommendation by the commission.
