City: ‘Streat’ fest set again

The popularity of last year’s food truck festival called the “Streat” Food Festival has the city recreation department serving up another helping.

On Monday, the city recreation commission heard a report by Jessie Novinger, department director, on how more than 160 vendors are invited to attend the next festival on June 16 in the parking lot of Bowman Field.

“We not only inviting food trucks but other vendors,” she said.

Among the planned activities is an 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. more family-oriented time; followed by tournaments and contests between the vendors and then an adult-beverage tasting and adult-themed events from 3 to 7 p.m., she said.

The very next weekend, the annual Homemade Days will take place on June 22-23 at Brandon Park, Novinger said. The activity includes vendors selling arts and crafts, specialty products, and food and refreshments, she said. It takes place beneath the shade of the trees in the park just off Packer Street.

Other activities are on the drawing board such as Williamsport Welcomes the World, the downtown party that blocks off Market through Hepburn streets and side streets such as Pine and William for a street festival. It features the Little League World Series themes and special guests, such as Reggie Jackson last year.

Halloween was discussed and the plan at this time is to prepare to hold an activity at Susquehanna State Park, near the site of the Hiawatha Paddlewheel Riverboat. The planned date for the event is Oct. 20, the last day the riverboat takes guests on upriver excursions.
