Re-entry alumni distribute to American Rescue Workers

Shank Valentine, left, and Thomas Stark, far right, two alumni of the Geo Re-entry program for inmates helped to distribute food and clothing as part of the alumni group’s drive to give back to the community Friday. Accepting the donations of non-perishable food items and clothing was Mike Kane, shelter director with the American Rescue Workers, 643 Elmira St. “I’ve not been giving back my whole life … I’ve been taking and taking,” Valentine said. “Through re-entry I’ve learned how to give back and prove I am not a bad person.” The clothing will be used at the shelter and the food given to the pantry to help feed 700 families a month, Kane said. “This is all donations from alumni,” said Mike Boughton, program manager with The Reentry Center. “This is what we have hoped for with the re-entry program,” said Ed McCoy, chief Lycoming County adult probation officer.
