Rider Park annual hosting open house
A variety of activities from bird watching to snake and bat shows will be featured at the fifth annual open house at Rider Park, from noon to 5 p.m. May 20.
About 600 people attend the event each year, according to Erin Ruhl, director of community engagement at the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania, which owns the park.
“For those who have never been there, it’s a great day to get out and enjoy the park,” Ruhl said.
Live exhibits of state wildlife, science in the park activities, as well as bird watching with the Lycoming Audubon Society, will be part of the event. The Lycoming County Master Gardeners will offer a flower to plant and take home. All activities are offered free of charge, according to Ruhl.
The only cost would be for food purchased from the two vendors at the event, she said.
Open house parking will be at the Eldred Township Volunteer Fire Co., 5556 Warrensville Road, starting at 11:30 a.m. A shuttle service will transport guests to the park, which is located on top of the mountain off Pleasant Valley Road on Caleb Creek Road.
Only service animals will be permitted at the park during the open house. Visitors are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes.
