Williamsport Regional Airport improvement projects continue

Multiple projects, including the new terminal building, are nearing completion at the Williamsport Regional Airport and the airport authority approved multiple bill payments Thursday evening.

The following were approved: $384,526 to Lobar Inc.; $74,317 to LTS Plumbing and Heating; $196,330 to Master Mechanical Corp.; and $61,671 to Tra Electric.

Two payments in the amount of $83,737 and $54,779 also were approved to Bronder Technical Services Inc. for work on runway approach improvements, which are “very close to completion,” said Jonathan Baker, director of operations at the airport.

Much of the money used to pay for these projects comes from federal and state grant programs such as the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program.

Funding for the $16 million terminal building comes from an amalgamation of federal and state monies paired with local donations from organizations such as the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania, which contributed $1 million, and Lycoming County, which contributed $2 million from its gas drilling impact fee funds.

In other business, the authority approved a $22,547 quote for storm drain installation at the new passenger terminal from K. Dale Sellers, adding to the terminal project total.

The drainage “will give a little bit of redundancy,” said Christopher Logue, authority chairman.

Despite recent rain events, the terminal still is on track for opening Oct. 1, Baker said.

The authority will have a special meeting at noon Thursday to open bids for phase two of the fuel farm relocation project.

Its next regular meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. June 14 at the airport.
