Muncy grads celebrate time together

MUNCY — “Enjoy the view, it doesn’t get any better than this,” Muncy School District’s Superintendent Dr. Craig Skaluba told the crowd of family and friends on hand for Muncy High School’s 138th graduation ceremony Friday night.

Gathered on the front lawn of the high school, programs became fans as the temperatures remained in the 80s, but no rain appeared to dampen the enthusiasm of the crowd and students who were marching to receive their diplomas and say goodbye to their time at Muncy High School.

Opening the official ceremonies, senior Lauryn Laidacker sang the national anthem as the flag at the school’s entrance waved in the cooling breeze blowing across the lawn.

Celebrating their time together, student speakers touched on the past, present and future.

Makenna Snyder talked about the time the students had spent together beginning in elementary school when an argument over jump ropes could divide friends.

“Third grade marked the beginning of our troubles. Our jump rope privileges were taken away, but we saw that as an opportunity to branch out, make new friends and try new activities,” she said.

Senior Jeremy Lloyd focused on the present during his speech, telling his classmates to “cherish the joyful moments” and “remember the unfavorable times for those challenging events truly define who we are today.”

Classmate Joshua Sweeney shared a favorite Bible verse with his peers and urged them to “invest in people and help one another.”

Finishing out the roster of student speakers, Nathan Paisley, senior class president, noted that many people think graduation is a “bittersweet ending,” but that it is really an “exciting beginning to a new adventure.” Tying in the class motto taken from the movie “Up,” Paisley quoted, “Thanks for the adventure — now go have a new one.”
