East Lycoming School District moves to full-time pre-K

HUGHESVILLE — Full-time pre-kindergarten will be offered in the East Lycoming School District beginning in the upcoming school year following a vote by the district’s board of directors Tuesday night to modify the grade configuration at the elementary level to include the switch from parttime to fulltime.

Cori Cotner, the district’s director of curriculum and instruction, told the board the classes are filled and there is a waiting list. Full-time pre-kindergarten will be offered at both Renn and Ashkar elementary schools. The grade configurations at those schools are now full-time pre-kindergarten through sixth grade following the vote.

Under personnel matters the board approved:

• Hiring Alexa Mantle as an elementary teacher for the 2018-19 school year.

• The resignation of Craig Weaver Jr. as girls’ basketball coach.

• The reappointment of 2018 summer band camp staff including Rae Temple, Gene March, Augustus Black, Katelyn Gallagher and Cameron Hornberger, effective Aug. 1.

• The appointment of Kathryn Stiadle and Isaac Briefer as 2018 summer band camp staff.

• The reappointments of cheerleading coaches for football, Stacey Palandro and for junior high football, Ruth Fry, for the upcoming school year. Alexis Warf also was approved as 2018-19 assistant football cheerleading coach.

Richard Michael, Richard Bradley, Erica Hubler, Karen Berger, Robert Heckrote, Kristy Creasy, Lisa McClintock and Michael Mamrak were present. Donna Gavitt was absent.

The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 14 in the High School Board Room, 349 Cemetery St.
