LEGISLATIVE TALLY: US House OKs defense act
Locally elected and appointed officials voted on the following matters in the past week:
• The House voted 359-54 in favor of the National Defense Authorization Act. Voting yes was U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard. U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station, did not vote.
• The House voted 277-142 in favor of the Restoring Access to Medication Act. Voting yes were U.S. Reps. Tom Marino, R-Cogan Station, and Glenn Thompson, R-Howard.
• The Lycoming County Housing Authority Board voted 4-0 to hire Lee Contracting Services for ceiling replacement work at a cost of $24,480. Voting yes were Brian Brooking, Nicoya Catino, Alfreda Baer and Kenneth Young. Holly Baker was absent.
• The Jersey Shore Area School Board unanimously approved Keith Veldhuis, current principal of Jersey Shore Area Elementary, to be the middle school principal remaining at his current salary of $104,967 effective Aug. 1. He will be replacing Laura Milarch, who retired as of July 20. In the same vote, the board approved Adrienne Johnston, current assistant principal of Jersey Shore Area Elementary, to be the Jersey Shore Area Elementary principal at a salary of $104,967 effective Aug. 1. Voting yes were members Merrill Sweitzer, Craig Allen, Harry Brungard, Dr. John Pecchia, Michelle Stemler, Karen Stover, Christopher Fravel, Mary Thomas and Kelley Wasson.
