Township residents inform supervisors of flood impacts

Loyalsock Township’s board of supervisors fielded a number of complaints regarding recent flood waters in the township at a meeting on Tuesday night.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, three residents spoke to the board about local waterways that had flooded their homes as rain washed through the area earlier this month.

Waterways at McClures run at Warren and Sheridan streets and a storm water pond off of Heim Hill Road were brought to attention after sediment brought by heavy amounts of rain water, helped cause overflow that moved into local houses, residents said.

Loyalsock resident Rod Ramin spoke to the board about a possible blockage at McClures run at Warren Street and the board agreed to send a camera into the tunnel that overflowed.

Township Manager Bill Burdett added that the township had ideas to reduce the chance the waterways would flood again, but still needed to consult Larson Design Company before moving forward.

“We have to run it by our engineers when we get a chance,” Burdett said.

The board also agreed to approve a handicap ramp for a resident at 2446 Waldman Drive. The resident had previously asked for approval to build the ramp as well as a deck addition to his home, but had failed to include the railing in the plans.

The township’s tax collector, Dottie Mertz, will have extended hours to collect local real estate taxes on Aug. 29 and 31 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m..

In attendance were John C. Bower, Marc C. Sortman and Richard H. Wheeland. Virginia Eaton and Paul Nyman were absent.
