A gas leak on Tombs Run Road, just off of Canoe Run Road in Mifflin Township Thursday, was caused by a contractor working in that area hitting one of the feeder lines, according to Joseph Swope, manager of media relations for UGI Utilities Inc, the area natural gas company.

Swope said UGI got a call a little after 11 a.m. that there was a leak in one of the lines. Three homes in the area were evacuated and the power shut off by PPL because of their proximity to the location of the leak.

The gas was rerouted to another line during the leak. The issue was resolved with no loss of service, Swope said.
