Cold, dry week ahead

This week is expected to stay around 50 degrees and dry but a system moving into the area early into the weekend could make Saturday and Sunday particularly wet and rainy.

Today looks like it will reach a high of 53 degrees, lower than average weather for this time of the month, according to John Banghoff, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in State College.

“This week is a little bit below average, fairly fall like,” Banghoff said. “Hopefully the leaves will start to change color if they don’t blow off with all this wind we’ve been having.”

Tomorrow’s temperatures will be slightly warmer at 56 degrees, but a small system moving into the region could bring a light amount of rain with it.

“Not a whole lot of accumulation on Tuesday,” he said. “With how cool it is there’s not a lot of moisture in these air masses.”

Cloud cover will continue into a colder Wednesday with a high estimated at 50 degrees. Both Thursday and Friday will be relatively cold, with the service estimating a high of 47 for Thursday and 50 for Friday. Wednesday’s cloud cover will hang over the area into the weekend, which is forecasted to be a rainy one.

Banghoff said while the low pressure system will greatly increase the chance of showers through both days, temperatures should stay around that 50 degree mark.

“It doesn’t necessarily look like it’ll be a drastic chance just a lot of rain,” he said, adding that the forecast could change for the weekend because it still is fairly early in the week. “That system could be a pretty big rain maker for parts of Central Pennsylvania.
