KC district resumes search for new super

MILL HALL — A renewed search for a permanent superintendent at the Keystone Central School District has begun.

The district just announced an updated protocol to find a new district leader amid Superintendent Dr. Alan J. Lonoconus’ temporary tenure.

“The Keystone Central School District (KCSD) is a school environment that fosters respect between and among students, faculty, staff, parents, school leaders and community members,” the district’s help-wanted announcement states.

Interested applicants are asked to submit letters of interest, educational vitae, credentials and three letters of reference to the district by Nov. 1, after which the applications will be reviewed.

According to the district, it has a $73.2 million budget for 2018-19.

It says it is “seeking a dynamic educational leader with excellent communication skills; a proven track record of improved student achievement; experience with CTE program development; understanding with special education law; fostering collaborative relationships with faculty, parents and community; fiscal leadership; understanding of and commitment to the district; a focus on equity for all students; integrity and visionary leadership.”

Lonoconus began a one-year contract on Aug. 1 following about five months of service, first as substitute superintendent, then as interim.

A previous search for a new superintendent was suspended after three interviews were conducted.

Lonoconus was among the final candidates, however, he previously had retired from public school service and reportedly has been deemed ineligible to serve as a permanent public school superintendent.

Board President Charles Rosamilia told The Lock Haven Express that Lonoconus will spearhead the search for a new superintendent.

Keystone Central consists of nine schools, a Career and Technology Center and an online cyberschool. Student enrollment is about 3,900, down more than 10 percent in the last six years.

The next school board meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18, at Bucktail Area High School, Renovo.
