4-year contract for East Lycoming staff approved by district
HUGHESVILLE — A four-year contract with the East Lycoming School District’s Education Support Professional Association was approved by the district’s board at its meeting Tuesday night.
The contract deals specifically with the paraprofessionals in the school.
The contract, which takes effect July 1, 2019, and extends through June 30, 2023, provides for an average increase of 36 cents per hour for each year of the contract. It also includes adjustments for the length of time an employee has been employed in the district and a small increase in the co-pay for insurance for senior employees, according to Superintendent Michael Pawlik.
In his report to the board, David Maciejewski, the district’s business manager, said he received a communication from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency about applying for a reimbursement for the amount the district spent on the water issues during the summer months due to the excessive amount of rainfall the area experienced. Maciejewski said it was his understanding that the process would take approximately six months.
Under personnel matters, the board accepted the retirement of Mary Smith as an elementary teacher at Ferrell Elementary School, effective at the end of the current school year. Pawlik noted that Smith had taught first grade in the district for 44 years. He said if the students that she had taught were added up it would equal over 1,100 students.
“That’s a lot of first graders that have benefited from this incredible, caring lady. All she ever sees is possibilities and abilities, which is why the kids do so well in her classroom,” said Pawlik.
Other personnel items approved were:
• The resignation of Constance Richart as a food service worker.
• An increase in the hours of assistant head cook at the high school, Sandy Wodrig, to 5.75 hours per day.
• The hiring of Dawn Pretti as a part-time supervisory aide at Ashkar Elementary and the high school at a rate of $10.93 an hour for 4.75 hours a day.
• Hiring Tyler Potts as the seventh grade boys basketball coach for the 2018-19 season at a rate of $1,496.
• Appointing Mark Pysher as a volunteer athletic coach for the 2019 soccer season.
Board members present were Richard Michael, Richard Bradley, Erica Hubler, Michael Mamrak, Karen Berger, Robert Heckrote and Kristy Creasy. Those absent were Lisa McClintock and Donna Gavitt.
The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 22 at the High School Board Room, 349 Cemetery St
