Autopsy performed on standoff suspect
WATERVILLE — An autopsy was completed Wednesday on the 62-year-old man who was killed Monday in a shootout with state police at his home, but specific details will not be released until later, Lycoming County Coroner Charles E. Kiessling Jr. said Wednesday night.
Following a lengthy standoff at his home at 111 Church St., Brant Hartung was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police that occurred about 12:30 p.m.
Five hours earlier, he began to fire rounds out of a second-story window at state troopers and emergency medical service workers, police said. One bullet struck an ambulance, but no one was injured.
Kiessling said Hartung’s manner of death was a homicide, but no further details will be released until state police complete their investigation and submit their findings to the Lycoming County District Attorney’s Office.
