Montoursville set to consider budget issues

Montoursville Area School Board will begin working on next year’s budget over the next several months.

Business Manager Brandy Smith reported to the board at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday that she has worked out a schedule for budget sessions.

“We hope to approve the budget by the end of May,” she said.

School budgets are to be finalized by June 30.

Late last year, the board voted not to exceed the Act 1 Index for increasing taxes needed to help balance the budget.

The board took action on a number of personnel issues.

The board approved the resignation of Sarah Keiser as a district office employee. Her resignation is effective Jan. 11.

Nate Kimble’s resignation as girls track and field coach was approved.

Erin Heap and Missy Weaver were approved as volunteer girls basketball coaches.

The board voted to approve a settlement for an unidentified employee.

Board president Scott Konkle and board member William Ruffing said they could not identify the employee nor the nature of the settlement.

Board solicitor Daryl Yount said the district does not have to reveal names or details of a personnel matter.

In other matters, Superintendent Christina Bason reported to the board that the district has received numerous right-to-know requests that have cost the district several thousand dollars.

Bason said many school districts around the state are receiving the requests from the same person for similar information.

“I believe we have answered every request with honesty and transparency,” she said.

The board met in executive session prior to the meeting to consider personnel issues.
