Arrest warrant filed for alleged shooter

A Harrisburg man is charged with attempted homicide in connection with Saturday’s early morning shooting in the parking lot of the Mini Mart at Sixth Avenue and High Street, according to city police.

An arrest warrant was filed hours later on Saturday for Ejuan Cosby, 21, charging him with 1 count of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, convicted felon not to possess a firearm, and related offenses.

Surveillance video taken outside the store captured the entire shooting, and from the video, investigators were able to identify the alleged gunman as Cosby, police said.

Officers were dispatched bout 2:10 a.m. to the store parking lot for a reported shooting, police said. A dispatcher told officers a vehicle was seen leaving the lot and heading east on High Street while at the same time a man was seen fleeing south on Sixth Avenue on foot.

Within a matter of minutes, police were directed to the emergency room at the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Regional Medical Center, about seven blocks east of the crime scene, where a male shooting victim had just arrived.

The victim was treated at the hospital for gunshot wounds to his right leg and foot, police said. The victim’s identity is being withheld by the Sun-Gazette because the gunman remained at large. Also, the victim’s age was not provided.

While admitting he had been shot outside the store, the victim told police he did not know who shot him or why.

Officers recovered six 9mm casings from the parking lot. Police also discovered a bullet lodged in a first-floor window frame of an occupied home across the street.

Based upon footage from the store’s video, the victim, riding in the back seat of a Jeep, arrived first and went into the store, followed a minute later by Cosby, who pulled into the lot driving a sedan, police said.

It appeared that Cosby and the victim exchanged looks and comments as they passed one another in the store’s doorway, police said. Cosby was entering the store as the victim was exiting.

The victim returned to the backseat of the Jeep and put down the window, police said. Cosby, upon exiting the store, walked back to his car, but at this point it appeared that the victim was yelling at Cosby, police said.

The victim again got out of the Jeep “and began to pull off his coat as if (he was about) to fight,” police said.

All of sudden, Cosby is seen on the video “pulling up a black pistol in his right hand and firing multiple shots, advancing towards (the victim) who was still removing his coat,” a police agent wrote in an affidavit.

Cosby fled south on Sixth Avenue as the victim sought cover behind the Jeep, police said, adding that the victim then got in the vehicle which pulled away and headed towards the hospital.

Cosby has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, convicted felon not to possess a firearm and related offenses. Police said his criminal record already consists of a conviction for felony robbery.
