Experts offer homeowners local advice
One of the attractions getting a buzz this year at the 60th annual West Branch Susquehanna Builders Association Home Show is a concept called “Ask the Expert” seminars.
In these, experts in financing construction, building a home and building and codes permitting offered seminars with advice and questions answered for the crowds, according to Carroll Pawlikowski, association executive officer.
Home remodeling contractors can range from skilled professionals who do quality work and complete projects on time to unscrupulous, fly-by-night con-artists that can take the money and run.
Attending the show can provide visitors with tips on what to watch for and how to avoid common pitfalls, especially with spring and summer construction season set to begin.
One true and tested company in the area since 1956 is Eagle Construction.
It happens to be the new business for James Hoffman, the association first vice president.
The business has a team that builds custom garages, sun rooms and patios.
Hoffman recently purchased the company from Marvin Hurwitz, took over when his father retired.
But Hoffman has nearly 20 years of experience in the construction industry, saying he got to know Hurwitz as a sub-contractor on many of his jobs.
Together, Hoffman and Hurwitz serve on the association’s board of directors.
The Home Builders Show continues at the Keiper Recreation Center at Lycoming College today until 8 p.m. and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
