Parks and rec survey addresses maintenance, amenities, additions

A Lock Haven University student working at the city recreation department has created a parks and recreation survey for the city.

Coleman Hamilton’s survey builds upon survey results and work done by Penn Strategies Inc., but also adds the student’s input on the question portion to be distributed soon to the public, said Jessie Novinger, city recreation director.

The city recreation commission reviewed the survey Monday, giving Hamilton high marks.

In it, Hamilton asks people whether they believe maintenance is necessary and where, and it lists what the park amenities are currently as well as proposed additions.

“It is a document that is a building block for the department and commission,” Novinger said. It builds on what numerous departments have already done, such as community development and streets and parks, she said.

Looking ahead next month, Splash Cove, the city outdoor aquatic facility in Memorial Park, is expected to open over Memorial Day weekend, Novinger said.

The pool is popular because of its use by the Williamsport WAVES Swim Team, the water features for tots and the big slide, she said.

Summer music concert series at Brandon Park will be held starting June 3 and continue through Sept. 29, Novinger said.
