Authority extends firm’s contract

A dam spillway wall at the Heller Reservoir is leaning and needs to be rehabilitated.

Owners of the dam, the Williamsport Municipal Water and Sanitary Authority, voted Wednesday to extend a contract by six months for Keller Partners, a Washington, D.C. lobbying firm assisting on locating Federal Emergency Management Agency funding for the rehabilitation project.

“Keller Partners is helping the authority to secure funding for rehabilitation projects associated with our dam,” said Michael Miller, authority executive director.

The contract price is $6,000 a month and it is split between both authorities, said John Baker, authority director of finance.

The authority will begin the engineering and the same time the authority will submit the grant application on the project, he said.

Keller Partners also is assisting Lycoming County to find funding toward projects associated with the recertification of the levee.

In another bit of business for the authority, going into Memorial Day, the water report to the authority indicated about 4.4 million gallons of water per day is used, according to Wendy Walter, authority director of compliance and safety.

The authority recorded one-third of an inch of precipitation less than normal over the past 90 days, so it remains plus or minus 10 percent of normal, Walter said.

The authority is honing a Facebook page it is preparing to launch. The page will not be able to receive commentary but is meant for educational and informational purposes.
