Airport loading bridge to be ready by end of July

DEREK DANNEKER/Sun-Gazette

Passengers making their way in or out of the Williamsport Regional Airport soon will walk directly onto or off their flights, according to members of the airport authority Thursday.

A roughly-$500,000 project to install a loading bridge should be completed by the end of next week, said John Baker, operations director.

The cost of the bridge project was included in the construction of the new airport terminal

Purchased through Ameribridge, the equipment allows for the docking of craft and passengers to embark or disembark without going outside.

Training for staff will begin once the loading bridge is complete, and may last two weeks. The bridge will be in use by the end of the month.

“I think that passengers will appreciate the fact that once they’re in there, they don’t have to be outside to get into the aircraft, they’ll be enclosed the entire time,” said Tom Hart, executive director.

In other business, the authority approved $121,068 to be paid to Lundy Construction for the replacement of Common hanger doors and maintenance.

Construction will ensue after the Little League World Series.

Members present: William Martin, Frank Pelegrino, Christopher Logue and Atwood Welker.

Members absent: Rebecca Burke, Garth Everett and Ryan Tira.

The next meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 8 in the airport board room, 700 Airport Road, Montoursville.
