Loyalsock schools accept $5,000 donation

A donation of $5,000 in supplies and equipment from a local home improvement business to be used for upgrades to the concession stand facility at the Loyalsock Township High School football stadium was approved by the district’s board at their meeting Wednesday night.

“Lowe’s Heroes” picks a local school and looks at projects that need to be done, according to M. Dan Egly, district business manager and board secretary. He added that the group had focused on Loyalsock’s band program.

Egly said the plan is to move everything out of the concession stand and install slip-resistant flooring, pressure wash everything, paint and install new countertops and sinks and also provide a new refrigerator. The board also authorized the administration to oversee the improvements.

Egly noted that some of the equipment removed from the concession stand will be repurposed for the new track team building and concession under construction at Schick Elementary School in order to lower costs.

Under personnel, the board approved the following Act 93 administrative changes, effective July 1, 2019:

The board approved the retirements/resignations of Jonathan Hall as assistant food service director and Lori Underwood as part-time paraprofessional.

An agreement for student teacher placements with Susquehanna University and an agreement for student nurse placements with the Pennsylvania College of Technology were approved by the board.

The contract for Ronald Insinger to provide athletic director services for the current school year was extended and will include a 2.5 percent increase retroactive to July 1, 2019.
