Daniel P. Defonte

Daniel P. Defonte, 59, of South Williamsport, Pa., passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013. Dan was born Feb. 15, 1953, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was the son of Nicholas J. and Margaret V. Defonte (Villareale). He graduated in 1975 from Lycoming College with a B.A. degree in sociology. Dan’s life career was in sales and he was currently employed as a sales representative with hibu-Yellow Book.

Dan is survived by his wife, Marie A. Defonte (Mussare); his daughter, Lisa and son-in-law Jeffrey Arp and his son, Nicholas J. Defonte, all of South Williamsport. He is also survived by two brothers, John Defonte (Peggy) and Nicholas Defonte (Lori) from Wantagh, N.Y.; and a sister, Pamela Ilsley (Ed) from New Bedford, Mass.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Dan was very active in his community. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club and an alumni advisor at Lycoming College. He volunteered for the Bethune Douglas Community Center literacy project and raised money for numerous charitable organizations. He was also an active member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.

Dan had a passion for music and was an experienced guitarist. He had a great love and knowledge of antique cars. What he will be most remembered for is his incessant joke telling, his ability to make everyone laugh and the way he loved with all his heart.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation which will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at the Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport, Pa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 800 W. Central Ave., South Williamsport, Pa. Father Paul C. Fontanella will be officiating.
