Donald W. Vannauker

Donald W. Vannauker, a resident of Fairless Hills, Pa., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.

Born June 18, 1938, in Jersey Shore, Pa., he was the son of the late Meredith M. and Evelyn F. Vannauker of Jersey Shore. Don grew up in Jersey Shore where he graduated from the Jersey Shore Area Joint High School.

He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Lock Haven State College, a Master of Education degree from Rutgers University and a Superintendent Certificate from Lehigh University.

He began his educational career teaching sixth grade in the Pennsbury School District. He then moved to Bristol Borough Schools as Director of Elementary Education and Principal of Warren Snyder Elementary School. In 1972, he moved to the Upper Moreland School District as Principal of Woodlawn Elementary School and in 1993 retired as Assistant Superintendent of Upper Moreland School District.

Don was a member of the LaBelle Vallee Masonic Lodge, Jersey Shore, Pa.; a choir member of the First United Methodist Church Choir; a member of the Pennsbury Teacher’s Chorus and served as President of the Pennsbury Scholarship Foundation.

Don was an avid gardener. He especially enjoyed growing flowers and garden plants from seed for neighbors, friends and family. He also enjoyed golfing, bird watching and vacations spent with his family. He will be deeply missed by his family and by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing or learning from him.

He is survived by Ruth, his devoted wife of 55 years, and two children; daughter, Ruth Ann Worsley of Levittown, Pa.; and son, Meredith of Germantown, Md. He is also survived by his brother, Barry Vannauker and wife, Marvine, of Fairless Hills, Pa.; as well as two nephews and their wives, David and Jenny of Kingwood, Texas; Douglas and Karen of Levittown, Pa.; and two nieces, Joanne Knorr of Hermitage, Tenn. and Connie Barone and husband, Robert of Greensburg, Pa.; and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald; his brother, Ray, and wife, Carole Vannauker of Jersey Shore, Pa.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the First United Methodist Church, 840 Trenton Road, Fairless Hills, PA, where his memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.

Interment will be held at a later date with immediate family in Jersey Shore, Pa.
