Morton Sheiman

Morton Sheiman, 93, of Williamsport, died on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at his residence.

Morton was born in Williamsport on Aug. 3, 1919, and was the son of the late Peter and Lena (Spector) Sheiman. He was a 1937 graduate of Williamsport High School and had attended the Dickinson Seminary for one year.

He had married the late Sylvia (Feingold) Sheiman on June 30, 1946, in Philadelphia and they had celebrated 62 years of marriage before her death in 2009.

Morton had worked from 1939 to 1941 at D and H Distributing Co. in Williamsport. He then went into the U.S. Army in 1941, served during World War II in North Africa and Italy and was honorably discharged in 1945. He had returned to D and H Distributing until 1947. At that time, he started Morts Appliance Center in Williamsport and in 1955, it became Morts Kitchen Center. He retired in 1982.

Morton was a member of the Congregation Ohev Sholom, Williamsport Mens Club, Bnai Brith, Elk Lodge No. 173, 32nd degree Mason, Masonic Lodge No. 755 and the Williamsport Consistory.

Morton is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a very good friend, Brian Miller of Muncy.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his only son, Lawrence Jay Sheiman in 1979.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at the Allen & Redmond Funeral Home, 331 Elmira St., Williamsport. His spiritual leader, Rabbi Shaul Rappeport, will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Ohev Sholom Cemetery, Williamsport.

In keeping with Jewish tradition, there will be no viewing or flowers.
