Roy W. Blain

Roy W. Blain, 95, a resident of Montgomery, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at his residence.

Born in Terrell, Kaufman County, Texas, on Saturday, Oct. 13, 1917, he was the son of the late William Lee and Laura (Hart) Blain.

Roy was the husband of Carolyn “Carrie” W. (Clark) Barnhart Blain with whom he celebrated an 11th wedding anniversary on Aug. 18, 2012. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mattie Small Blain, whom he married on May 29, 1937. She preceded him in death on May 31, 1993.

He was a 1937 graduate of Kaufman Texas High School. Roy honorably served during World War II as a Chief Motor Machinist’s Mate with the U.S. Navy submarine division. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and had also been self employed as a farmer.

Roy was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at Cogan Station. Prior to moving to Pa., he was a long time active member of the Church of Christ of Ola, Texas.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son from his first marriage; three grandsons, Chad Blain, Craig Blain, Clifton Blain, all of Texas; six step-sons, Les Barnhart, Jim Barnhart, Tom Barnhart, Andy Barnhart, Ben Barnhart, and John Barnhart.

He is also survived by numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his first wife, Roy was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Galen R. Betzer Funeral Service, 108 N. Main St., Muncy, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, with Les Barnhart officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Clinton Township, Lycoming County.
