William B. Allegar
William B. “Bill” Allegar, 72, of Waller Divide Road, Benton, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He had been failing in health for the past six months.
Born Aug. 5, 1940, in Danville, he was a son of the late Clifton G. and Emma E. (Benjamin) Allegar. He was a 1959 graduate of the Benton High School and also the Williamsport Technical College.
He was a welder and pipefitter by trade, working for Pullman Power Products in Williamsport for 18 years, and also for many various power plants until his retirement in 2004.
William was a member of the Plumbers Pipefitters Local No. 520 of Harrisburg for over 45 years, a life-long member of the Divide Hunting Club and the North Central Corvette Club of Hughesville. He was a faithful member of the Waller United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. He was also active on the Waller Cemetery Board and very involved in the Waller Memorial Hall. He and his wife owned and operated their Waller area farm for over 40 years. Spending time with his family, hunting, traveling in his RV and especially spending winters in Florida were some of his favorite pastimes.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Ruth Ann (Hess) Allegar; four daughters, Vicki Lee Lockard and her husband, Robin, Beth Ann Ritter and her husband, Garry, Laurie Kay Strauch and her husband, Andy, and Billie Jo Creveling and her husband, Charles, all of Benton; four granddaughters, Amanda, Alyssa and Allison Lockard, and Emalee Hartman; and a step-granddaughter, Krysten Ritter.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by three infant siblings and a grandson, Jeremy Randall Hartman.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the McMichael Funeral Home, Inc., 4394 Red Rock Road, Benton (Rt. 487), with Pastor Matthew Verstraeten, officiating. Burial will be held in the Waller Cemetery. A Viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McMichael’s.
