William J. Hill

William J. Hill, 84, formerly of South Williamsport, Pa., died on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at the Williamsport Home.

William was born on Dec. 26, 1928, at South Williamsport. He was the son of the late William D. and Blanch (Barrett) Hill.

He graduated in 1946 from the South Williamsport High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in education at Bloomsburg Teacher’s College and his master’s degree at Bucknell University. William was an educator for 40 years at South Williamsport Area School District, where he served as a teacher, guidance counselor, and high school principal.

A lifetime member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, he acted in many capacities, including past president of Church Council. He was an officer and an active member of the Lycoming County Chapter of Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. Proud of his military service, he was a member of the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County. An avid reader, he was a Bravo volunteer at the James V. Brown Library. He also volunteered for many years at the Williamsport Hospital.

William is survived by his wife, the former Shirley Goettel, and his daughter, Karen (Eddi) Staffini, of Fairfax, Va. He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Curtis.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation for William Hill at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church until the time of the service.

Funeral services for William J. Hill will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 142 N. Market St., Williamsport, with his pastor the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, 1 E. Central Ave., South Williamsport, PA 17702
