Ira A. Buck

Ira A. Buck, 88, of 140 Carpenter St., Muncy, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Parkland, Fla., at the home of his daughter, Candice.

Born Dec. 20, 1924, in Shippensburg, he was a son of the late Elmer T. and Olive (Shanefelter) Buck. On June 2, 1948, he married the former Jane E. Rothfuss, who preceded him in death on Aug. 2, 2002, after 54 years of marriage.

Ira served briefly in the Navy during World War II. He was a self-employed brick mason and in addition, he worked on various union projects such as the Williamsport High School.

He also worked on several local residences, with his favorite projects being the refurbishing of historical homes in and around the area.

Ira was a member of Roland Ritter Post 268 American Legion, Muncy; Muncy Valley Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 866; and Sulphyr Springs Rifle and Revolver Club, Clarkstown. He enjoyed the outdoors and his favorite pastime was fishing. He also liked to hunt and was a member of the N.R.A.

Surviving are one son, Terry (Kay Anne) Buck of Muncy; two daughters, Candice (Ranse) Bostley of both Montoursville and Parkland, Fla., and Bonnie Jo (Charles) Gottschall of Muncy; one daughter-in-law, Peggy S. Martin-Buck of Picture Rocks; one sister-in-law, Betty (Fred) Wesner of McEwensville; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents he was predeceased by a son, Ray A. “Skip” Buck, who died Oct. 10, 2002; two sisters, Pearl Derr and Mary Monk; and three brothers, Edward, Clarence and Elmer Buck.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Grenoble’s, 121 S. Main St., Muncy, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m.

Officiating will be Rev. David Culbertson, pastor of St. James Episcopal Church, Muncy. Burial will follow in Muncy Cemetery.
