Jessie G. Bone
Jessie G. Bone, 98, of Jersey Shore, died Saturday morning, Feb. 2, 2013, in the Jersey Shore Hospital after a brief illness.
Born March 10, 1914, in Syracuse, N.Y., she was the daughter of Paul S. Green and the former Nellie M. Gheen.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John H. Bone, on Sept. 12, 1997. They were united in marriage on Dec. 18, 1943, in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore.
She was a graduate of the Jersey Shore High School and received her bachelor’s degree from Wells College in New York in 1937. For many years, she taught in the Montgomery and Jersey Shore School Districts. During World War II, she was employed by Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven. Jessie served her community as a 30-year member of the Jersey Shore Board, a member of the Jersey Historical Society, Clio Club, Womens Club of Williamsport and the First United Methodist Church. Jessie was a member, former Regent and Treasurer of the Daughters of the American Revolution (Fort Antes Chapter). She received the Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame Award for 50 years of continuous voting. For her outstanding service to her community, she was voted citizen of the year in 1973. She also was a member of the Ivanhoe Chapter No. 28 Order of Eastern Star.
Jessie is survived by two daughters, Barbara B. (Dr. Wayne) Hurr of Annapolis, Md., and Constance G. Bone of Portland, Maine.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home. Dr. John Pisarcik and Certified Lay Minister Becky Cuddeback will officiate. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church, 236 S. Main St., Jersey Shore, PA 17740.
