John S.A. ‘Bud’ Long
John S.A. “Bud” Long, 75, of 809 Seminary St., Jersey Shore, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, 2013, in the ManorCare Health Center in Jersey Shore.
Born May 29, 1937, in Jersey Shore, he was the son of John W. Long and the former Irene K. Geiswite.
John is survived by his wife – his high school sweetheart – the former Myrtle R. Gustafson. They were united in marriage on June 15, 1957, in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jersey Shore.
After 31 years of service, he retired from the shipping department of Alcan Cable in Williamsport.
For many years he was a member of the Chapter “M” Gold Wing Road Riders, Labelle Vallee Lodge No. 232 Jersey Shore, Williamsport Consistory, the Jersey Shore Elks Lodge No. 1057 and received the Elk of the Year Award at his Lodge.
Over the years, he and his wife traveled the 48 states on their Gold Wing Honda.
John served his community as a active member of the Independent Hose Co. in Jersey Shore. He served the fire department as a line officer for 11 years and chief for 9 years.
Also surviving are one son, J. Michael (Laurie) Long of Mechanicsburg; two daughters, Joyce M. (Brian) Greene of Kennesaw, Ga., and Jonna M. Long of Washington D.C.; three loving grandchildren, Sarah Corbridge, Daniel Greene and Alex Long; one brother, Lawrence Long of Jersey Shore; and one sister, Jean Walker of Ellwood City, Pa.
John was preceded in death by his mother and father; a sister, Joanne Robinson; and a brother, Kenneth Long.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening, Feb. 25, in the funeral home. Independent Hose Co. memorial services will be Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Rev. Kerry Aucker will officiate. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
