Arlene G. Christ

Arlene G. Christ, 92, of Neptune Beach, Fla., formerly of Montoursville, Pa., passed away peacefully Sunday, March 13, 2013.

Arlene was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Cressona, Pa., the daughter of Annie and Arthur Butler. She was a 1938 graduate of Cressona High School.

She married her high school sweetheart, Robert S. Christ, on May 23, 1942, and their travels began, when after a year of teaching high school in Hickory, Pa., Robert enlisted in the Army Air Forces and became a pilot. In 1947, Robert resumed teaching and the couple settled in Montoursville.

Arlene was a homemaker, enjoyed summer vacations at the New Jersey shore and was an active member in church and community organizations. She was also instrumental in starting and operating the family business, the former Christy’s Meat Market in Montoursville.

Following her husband’s death in 1980, Arlene moved to Neptune Beach in 1982. She became an avid Gator fan, loved the beach, was a regular at the Jacksonville Symphony and was an active volunteer and member of Christ United Methodist Church. Above all, she cherished times spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was dearly loved by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and one sister. She is survived by her four children, Mary Ann Sawyer (Steve), Jacksonville, Fla., Robert F. Christ (Susan), Montoursville, Deborah K. Peterson (Tim), Neptune Beach, Fla., and Edward P. Christ (Tommie), Jacksonville Beach, Fla. She is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her brother, Claude Butler, State College, Pa.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Christ United Methodist Church, Neptune Beach, Fla. Interment is in Montoursville Cemetery.
