Betty Jean Stachowski

Betty Jean Stachowski, 82, of Blossburg, Pa., passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, N.Y.

Betty Jean Hetherton was born on Jan. 6, 1931, in Elmira, N.Y, the daughter of the late Russell and Gladys (Ogden) Hetherton. She was a 1949 graduate of Southside High School. On Aug. 28, 1954, she married Alfred “Alfie” Stachowski at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Morris Run, Pa. They were blessed with 51 years together before his passing on Oct. 27, 2005. She was employed as an office worker for the Elmira City School District for many years until retiring in 1985. Betty Jean was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Blossburg, where she enjoyed singing in the church’s choir.

Surviving are two aunts, Doris LeBlanc and Hazel Skullney, both of Blossburg; a nephew and three nieces, Bernard Stachowski, Bernadine Youmans, both of Morris Run, Kathleen Fenner of Maiden, N.C., and Patricia LeFever of Williamsport; Betty Jean’s best friend, Lisa Marvin of Covington; nine cousins, Clinton, Richard and Jerome Ogden, all of Blossburg, Roberta Marvin of Covington, Rebecca Fultz of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Connie Ann Morley of Ankeny, Iowa, William Skullney of Granite, Md., Lois Cole of Wellsboro and Mary Ann Levinduski of Morris; special great niece and great nephew, Jennifer Weaver and Jonathan Youmans; several great nieces and great nephews; many dear neighbors and friends.

In addition to her beloved husband Alfred, Betty Jean was predeceased by a brother, Donald Hetherton on Jan. 13, 1968.

In keeping with Betty Jean’s expressed wishes, there will be no services. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Morris Run, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Betty Jean’s memory may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.

Zwicharowski Funeral Home in Blossburg is assisting her family with arrangements.
