James Lawrence Hetler

James Lawrence Hetler, 94, of Montoursville, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 15, 1918, in Montoursville, he was a son of the late Leslie B. and Alice M. Smithgall Hetler. He and his wife, the former Florence M. Walters, would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on April 24, 2013.

Jim was a graduate of Montoursville Area High School, class of 1936. He was retired from the former Schnadig Furniture. Jim was a member of the Fairfield United Methodist Church, Montoursville, where he enjoyed teaching adult Sunday school for many years. He was an avid golfer and was a former member of the Eagles Mere Country Club. Jim also enjoyed spending time mowing his several acre lawn.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, James A. (Carol) Hetler of Montoursville; a daughter, Sandra L. (Richard) Johnson of Neenah, Wis.; two sisters, Betty Machanic and Mary Rich, both of Fla.; three grandchildren, Jonathan Hetler, Brad (Julie) Johnson and Jennifer (John) Hartley; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Fairfield United Methodist Church, 833 Fairfield Church Road, Montoursville, with the Rev. David Trostle officiating. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to the Fairfield United Methodist Church.
