John N. ‘Jack’ Soler
John N. “Jack” Soler, 89, of Phoebe Terrace, Allentown, formerly of 1253 Bulwer St., Allentown, died March 11, 2013, in his home. He was the husband of the late Lucille E. (Griesemer) Fahler Soler.
He worked in the maintenance department at the Lehigh Valley Post Office on Airport Road in Allentown from 1980 until 1986. Prior to that, he was the president and owner of Muncy Fabrics, Inc. in Muncy, Pa. Born in Phillipsburg, N.J., he was the son of the late John Soler Jr. and the late Daisy N. (Nicholas) Soler. He was a graduate of Allentown High School and the Philadelphia College of Textile and Science. Jack was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees. In High School, he was a three time P.I.A.A. State Diving Champion in 1940, 1941 and 1942. He won the National Interscholastic Diving Championship along with the Southern AAU in 1943 and was selected to the Interscholastic All-American Swimming Team in Fancy Diving from 1940 to 1943. He was inducted into the Allen High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1986 and in 2002 was elected into the PA Swimming Hall of Fame. Jack was a P.I.A.A. Swim Official from 1972 until 1994. He was a 32 Degree Mason, New Temple Lodge No. 720, Allentown, a member of Rajah Temple, Reading, a member of the Hillbillie Degree Klan No. 9, Outhouse No. 1, a member and past Grand Tall Cedar of Lebanon, Allentown Forest No. 41, a member of V.F.W. Post No. 3428, Allentown, and a life member of the D.A.V., Lehigh Valley Chapter No. 7. He was a past president of the Muncy Rotary Club, and past commander of the Muncy American Legion Post No. 268.
Survivors include son, John H. Soler and his wife Sandy of Allentown; daughters, Sheri A. Moon of Decatur, Ill., Terri M. wife of James Shaw of Silverthorne, Colo., and Jacquelyn J. wife of Gary Kremser of Winfield, Pa.; stepson, William L. Fahler of Allentown; stepdaughter, Patti Louise wife of Albert Palmieri of Allentown; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
