Paul Galen Sober
Paul Galen Sober, 77, Williamsport, passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital.
Born April 22, 1935, in Williamsport, he was a son of William Bright Sober and Dorothy A. (Bower) Sober.
Paul married the former Gail Louise Bovee, on June 1, 1957, in St. Matthew Lutheran Church, who was the love of his life, and celebrated 55 years together, living and raising two wonderful daughters.
He was a 1953 graduate of Williamsport High School and was treasurer of the class reunion committee. Paul was a newspaper carrier for the Williamsport Sun until he was employed at the Sun-Gazette Company for 45 years where he was the circulation manager, from 1952 until his retirement in April of 1997.
Paul was a member of U.S. Naval Reserve for eight years, attaining the rank of Yeoman Petty Officer Second Class (YNTZ) and was honorably discharged in 1960.
He served as President of the Greater Williamsport Jaycees Chapter 1968 to 1969, also as the state director and regional vice president of Pennsylvania Jaycees 1969 to 1970, received the Jaycee Key Man Award 1965 to 1966.
Paul was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church since 1957, serving as greeter, communion assistant, usher, member of council 1971 to 1972, vice president of council 2001 to 2004, worship and music committee 2001 to 2004.
Surviving in addition to his wife Gail, are daughters, Janet G. (Eric F.) Mease of Townsend, Del., Sharon E. (Roanld W.) Harris of Russell; grandchildren, Heidi A. (Mark) Miller of Middletown, Del., Adam M.F. (Lauren) Mease of Townsend, Del., and Sarah E. Harris and Rachel N. Harris, both of Russell; great-grandchildren, Jason and Zoe Miller of Middletown, Del., and Owen and Shane Mease of Townsend, Del.; brothers, William H. (Edythe) Sober Sr. of Williamsport, Donald E. (Arlyne) Sober of Wilmington, Del., Jack W. (Connie) Sober of Catasauqua, Harry E. (Barbara) Sober of Montoursville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, C. LeRoy Sober and great-grandson, Justin Miller.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 2233 Linn St. Burial will be held in Montoursville Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, at Sanders Mortuary.
