Ronnie Slocum, 64, of Roaring Branch, Pa., passed away at home while surrounded by family on Sunday morning, March 3, 2013.
Born on Oct. 21, 1948, Ronnie Lew Slocum, “Sloc” to his family and friends, was the son of Ernestine Tillotson Herman. He graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1966. On March 12, 1966, Ronnie married the former Mary Jane Route. Together they shared 46 wonderful years and raised two children.
In earlier years, Ronnie was employed as a meat cutter and worked for several years at Canton’s D & H Market. He later worked for Ward Manufacturing in Blossburg. He was a social member of the Marine Corps League Deer X-ing Detachment in Ralston and enjoyed watching the Wheel Inn’s annual softball tournaments.
Ronnie enjoyed doing many things in life, but special times were shared with family and friends, especially the grandkids. He was an outdoors enthusiast, an avid hunter and fisherman. A favorite place to camp was Ogden Hollow near Ogdensburg. Ronnie also loved countryside rides on his Harley Davidson and 4-wheeling in his Ranger with Patsy.
In addition to his mother, Ernestine of Roaring Branch, surviving are his wife, Mary Jane; children, Mike (Kathy) Slocum of Roaring Branch and Alisha (Dan) Ragan of Ogdensburg; five grandchildren, Shaina, Josh, Chantel, Gabe and Zack; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Hannah; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred Route Sr. and Marian Route Richards.
Family invites friends to call 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pepper Funeral Home, 578 Springbrook Drive in Canton. Pastor Dan Walker will officiate the funeral service following at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in Ronnie’s name to Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to a charity of one’s choice.
